From Surviving to Thriving
After arriving in the United States alone at age 13, a young girl from Honduras faced the challenges of adapting to a new country, language, and culture. With support from Urban Strategies and her sponsor family, she not only adjusted to her new environment but began building a future defined by confidence, belonging, and possibility.
Opening doors through opportunity
After arriving in the United States alone at age 13, a young girl from Honduras faced the challenges of adapting to a new country, language, and culture. With support from Urban Strategies and her sponsor family, she not only adjusted to her new environment but began building a future defined by confidence, belonging, and possibility.
Connecting Through Culture
For many immigrant families, language barriers can prevent access to critical services, information, and opportunities. By providing culturally responsive, Creole-speaking case managers and translating essential documents, Urban Strategies helped Haitian families move from confusion and disconnection to understanding, trust, and meaningful progress.
Persistence Opened the Door to Opportunity
When repeated obstacles threatened a young child's access to education, Urban Strategies refused to let a case close before the work was done. By advocating across multiple levels of leadership and extending support beyond the original timeline, the team helped ensure the child was successfully enrolled in school—creating stability, opportunity, and a stronger foundation for the future.
3 Days. 1 Community. A Future Protected.
When a Honduran teenager's path to legal status was at risk because her family could not afford legal representation, Urban Strategies mobilized its network to help. Within three days, community members came together to fully fund the legal costs needed to reopen her case and pursue Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), creating a pathway toward safety, stability, and future opportunity.
Turning relationships into real trust
When a Houston family faced a critical immigration-related emergency and no traditional funding source could help, Urban Strategies partners mobilized churches, nonprofits, and community leaders to provide immediate financial support and stability.
